1 Kept, Atlanta, GA Restaurant Review

1 Kept is a not-so-secret gastropub located in Peachtree Hills. Located next to Tantra, from Peachtree it is hard to miss the illuminated signage pointing to the turn in for 1 Kept. Passing by numerous times, I picked it for a girl date with a friend of mine several months ago. And walking in, I knew 1 Kept was the perfect spot with it’s low lighting and rich woods.

Although I’ve only been a couple of times, both on weeknights and weekends the bar, a huge focal point in the restaurant, is pretty lively. So, if you are looking for a spot to meet for a drink before dinner elsewhere, this is the perfect spot. There are also a couple comfy chairs near the bar area that offer a bit more privacy.

Whether you are looking for beer, wine or cocktails, there’s something for you. There are about a dozen wines by the glass and nearly 20 craft beer choices. The cocktail list changes quite often and has a wide variety of specialty drinks no matter what your booze of choice. On my most recent visit, we enjoyed the Gin Cocktail with Rosemary, pickled lemon and basil and the 50 /50 martini. But this was not your average martini. It was half vodka, half gin (hence the name 50 /50) and came with fresh basil, cilantro and ginger beer.

1 Kept Beet Salad

Blowing past common apps like deviled eggs, Pimento cheese, and mussels on the menu, we dove right into the flatbreads of which there are six. A watermelon and feta was quite unusual and interesting, but the kale salad was lackluster. The next visit, we started with the colorful and tasty beet salad. With both red and gold beets, the walnut oil, arugula and pomegranate really make this stand out.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been wowed by apps and disappointed by entrees. Luckily, this wasn’t the case at 1 Kept. The entrees were outstanding. A veal meatloaf was a decent amount that we shared on our girl date. But we ordered two entrees the second go round: Scallops with corn risotto and Schnitzel & Pink Potato Gnocchi. This unique dish is served with caramelized onion cream and braised red cabbage. The crispy schnitzel mixed with that perfectly creamy onion cream is glorious. As this year comes to a close, this is easily one of the best dishes I’ve had all year.

Service is excellent too. Different servers have all been really friendly and helpful with picking out cocktails / menu items. 1 Kept is great for a small group outing (think birthday celebration), date night or girls night out.
