The Drafting Table is the reinvention of the Hill Street Tavern, located Downtown in the Pencil factory lofts. Parking is easy with a garage adjacent to the property at no charge, and an entrance into the Drafting Table from the garage. The Drafting Table has been open only a handful of months and has just started serving brunch.
On a extremely frigid Atlanta day, we were hoping for some hot coffee to warm us up. Not only was the coffee dreadful, but it was lukewarm. I downed a cup to put some caffeine in my body but switched to a Bloody Mary after the coffee. They may not be able to serve decent coffee but their Bloody Mary was nice and spicy and a deal at only five bucks.
The bar takes up about half the space in the restaurant. But there was plenty of seating to be had on this Sunday. It is obvious they are still getting into the hang of brunch service. It was freezing in there and I saw an employee turning up the heat about halfway into our brunch. The music level needed to be adjusted for brunch too. It was pretty loud, which is probably fine for a busy Saturday night, but not a quiet Sunday brunch. At least is was cool, obscure 90s music, almost identical to my 90s iPod playlist.
We sampled the Corned Beef Hash, Brisket Gravy (brisket stew over biscuits) and the 50/50 burger (half beef, half bacon). Both the Corned Beef Hash and Brisket Gravy were quite tasty and come served with choice of eggs. Sadly, the food got cold quickly, I suspect because the plates were cold, which is probably the same fate that befell our coffee.
The burger comes topped with white cheddar and Arugula. Don’t be fooled by the small size. It is extremely filling and the bacon, ground with the beef, gives it a deliciously smokey flavor. This definitely makes for a good, greasy hangover cure. At brunch, they sub fries with hash browns, peppers and mushrooms. Make sure to order a side of fruit with mango, blueberries and papaya, and topped with Triple Sec. Brunch plates average about $12.
