The Counter Burger, located in Roswell, has added Bison Burgers to the menu. These bison burgers are made from certified organic bison that are 100% grass fed and antibiotic- and hormone-free. I’m a huge fan of the counter burger’s $14 burger and beer pairings, so I was anxious to try the new protein.
Size is 1/3, 2/3 or a full pound of any protein. The curious thing is that they are served as 1/3 patties and stacked based on what weight you order. So, for example, I ordered a 2/3 pound burger, so I got two 1/3 patties stacked on bun. I thought the burger was tasty (get it medium), but I wouldn’t have wanted a triple stack, which I feel would just take away from everything else. Also, go easy on the toppings, otherwise it will overpower the burger. There are so many toppings to choose from it is easy to get carried away. I went a bit overboard with the sun-dried tomatoes, basil pesto, caramelized onions and gruyere cheese. Next time I’ll keep it simple with cheese and onions.
We put in an order of the fifty fifty fries: half regular and half sweet potato. I love the fries, but unless you request it, they will bring the fries out before the burgers, more like an appetizer. We polished our fries off well before the burgers came out, which was fine since we were starving.
The counter has table service and even offers a variety of craft beers, wine and even cocktails. I honestly can’t remember the name of the beer we sampled. It was a new and had a slightly sweet finish. We also opted to share the milkshake of the month: cookies and cream. Our server was even nice enough to split the one shake into three different glasses for us to share.
The Counter’s supplier, Blackwing Organic Meats, ensures the Bison are humanely cared for and are inspected by USDA veterinarians to assure each animal is healthy. Also, Bison is high in protein, and low in fat and calories.
