YEBO – A TASTE OF SOUTH AFRICA

I recently stumbled upon 10 Degrees South, on Roswell Road, and love it almost as much as Malika loves it. Delicious grilled meat, live music and a buzzing ambiance made my night. Plus, I’m a spice fan, so their special Peri-Peri sauce, a particularly flavorful Portuguese hot sauce, still remains on my mind.

So, I was truly excited to hear about Yebo, South African restaurateur Justin Anthony’s latest offering, in Phipps Plaza, Buckhead, which opened on September 13. Justin told me Yebo (pronounced ‘yeah-bo’) is 10 Degrees’ “little sister”. I couldn’t agree more. While 10 Degrees conjures up images of rustic South Africa, Yebo is chic, sleek and contemporary.

The menu consists of tapas-style small plates, averaging between $10-15 per plate. And in true South African style, there’s game on the menu. Justin insists you try Ostrich Sliders for $12. Why? It’s the healthiest red meat, he says. The Chicken Curry Bunny Chow ($11), a South African bread bowl, is another Yebo specialty.

There’s also a sizable wine list, including a wide selection from South Africa.

Take advantage of the fall weather and sit outdoors, as you sip a Ken Forrester Chenin Blanc ($9 a glass), or Yebo, a spiced rum and honeydew concoction for $12. There’s also live music provided by the same band that entertains at 10 Degrees.

Whether for a tapas date night with a twist, or after-work drinks, Yebo is one new restaurant we’ll be paying attention to!
