Mr. ARB has long given up on planning date nights for us. Knowing I thoroughly research any potential date night spot, he leaves the planning up to me. Craving Vietnamese on a recent Saturday evening, we headed out to Dunwoody’s Co’m. Though there is another Co’m on Buford Highway, as I understand it, the two are separate with different menus. There was a mix of families and couples and as the evening was pleasant we opted for outdoor dining.
We began with the duck stuffed grape leaves. Topped off with crunchy peanuts and a sweet dipping sauce, we had no complaints. For entrees we chose the Salmon and the Bun – Rice Noodles with a sweet sauce topped with your choice of protein. Both were excellent. The beef and rice noodles were tasty and so filling. The Salmon, perfectly prepared, was served with jasmine rice, green beans, broccoli and Indochine tomato and cucumber salad.
Halfway through dinner we chatted up the couple next to us, clearly regulars. While discussing our experience at Co’m, and older gentlemen wandered over from next door, wine glass in hand. Turns out, he owns d’Vine Wine Bar next door. Bob, as we learned, is a retired executive and opened up d’Vine Wine Bar to stay busy. It didn’t take much prodding from him and our new friends to continue our date next door.
This time, though, we sat inside to take advantage of the beautiful decor and live music. Surrounded by custom wood wine shelves and nooks, and an inviting, old-world style bar, it is both bar and shop. Customers can purchase wine and be on their way or sit and enjoy wine by the glass or bottle. Most of the wines are boutique and not well known, but staff is skilled at assisting guests pick out a wine that will suite their taste. Bob himself helped us pick out a wine we’d all enjoy. Visit Mondays for “Uncorked” and taste about 20-25 different wines for around $15.
What a fun date night! And it is pretty affordable too. Between dinner for two including wine at Co’m and the wine we had at d’Vine, we were well under a Benjamin.
