Nava Restaurant has long since been one of my favorite restaurants in Atlanta since I started visiting shortly after they first opened. And I’ve recommended it to lots of people as well. Its got a great decor. And Nava is large enough to accommodate large groups but two could also have an intimate dinner there as well.
Although Southwestern cuisine seems to have peaked in the 90s, Nava continues to impress with its creative take on traditional favorites. Nava has just started offering brunch service and invited me to sample some of their dishes offered on their new brunch menu.
We started off with some blue corn bread and chips with a salsa trio. These aren’t your normal salsas – so fresh and flavorful. We sampled Mango Habañero, Avocado Tomatillo, and Chipotle Tomatillo (pictured above with the Peach Payaso Drink). While I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite, the Mango Habañero was quite delicious but loved the smokey flavor of the Chipotle Tomatillo. Executive Chef Ryan Delesandro put together a delicious brunch for us to sample.
I’ve always loved the Prickly Pear Margarita at Nava, but this brunch afforded me the opportunity to sample some of their other creative drinks (nearly one with each course) and they did not disappoint. We started things off with a GA Peach Bellini, with peach puree inside. A refreshing to start to the five courses to come. Us ladies had no idea what a feast lay ahead of us….
We started things off with a selection of mini tacos – Baja Fish, Chiotle BBQ Brisket and Shrimp and Grits. I say mini because we were told the portions we were sampling were a small versions of a regular portion. But I found the portions to be perfectly sized as they were. My favorite was the Shrimp and Grits. Next up were the Johnny Cakes with bacon. What can I say? They were pretty perfect. Fluffy pancakes, crisp bacon, and sweet syrup in each bite.
Third course was the “Bacon” and Eggs. The “bacon” was pork belly, which was served atop Masa Gorditas, Chorizo and Fried Eggs. This was accompanied by a Chipotle Aioli and Arugula Salad. It is pictured above with the Blood Orange Mimosa. I loved how all the flavors came together in this dish. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the Masa Gordita. Its just my personal taste. But that’s a very minor thing. Of course there was Pork Belly AND Chorizo in the dish. What’s not to love about that?
Next up was the Sonoma Jack Cheese 3 Egg Omelet. It sounds pretty simple, right? A cheese omelet, what’s sophisticated about that? But this came with Tequila Sour Cream, Rojo Mole, Pico de Gallo, Yukon Potato and Chorizo Hash Browns. I love every ingredient in that last sentence. And I’m a total slut for Mole sauce. This was probably my favorite course of all. Again, the sauces and other ingredients blended well together, one not overpowering another. Have you noticed that every course so far has had pork of some sort in it? Love!
Lastly, we were treated to the Salmon and Eggs. This was served with a Spinach and Goat Cheese Hash and Chipotle Lime Hollandaise. The egg on top broke perfectly and streamed down to cover all the food underneath it. Spinach and Goat Cheese Hash was just a bonus. Our last cocktail was the Spiced Flower – Hangar One Chipotle Vodka, St.Germaine, Champagne. Oh this concoction was perfection. It was slightly spicy, sightly sweet and slightly bubbly.
They tempted us with dessert too! Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Mud Pie and Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. Beautiful display for each one of them, but the cheesecake with its mango sauce and raspberry sorbet was the hit. Want to see the pics? Head over to ARB’s Facebook Page.
Each course we sampled at Nava’s new brunch was extremely delicious and there wasn’t anything I would not order again. I loved that the sauces complimented the dishes rather than mask the taste as can sometimes happen. As I
walked waddled back to my car, very pleasantly stuffed, I was already mentally making a note to plan a girls get together at Nava for brunch. Nava Brunch is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
