Urban PL8, Westside, Atlanta, GA Restaurant Review

I love, love, love Urban PL8. I’ve eaten at this organic, gluen-free, paleo-friendly, restaurant four times now, for lunch, brunch and dinner twice. Each time seems to be better than the time before. Located on the Westside, near Howell Mill Rd, there’s a parking lot attached to the Urban PL8, so street parking isn’t a worry (suck it, Park Atlanta). Urban PL8 is a little off the beaten path, you’ll drive down Howell Mill and turn onto Huff Rd. Urban PL8 is a little up the road on the left side.

Brunch and dinners have included the crab cake, which is mostly lump crab with a minimal amount of filler. The brunch version, served up with a fried egg and creamy hollandaise is unforgettable. Another nice thing about the brunch at Urban PL8? It is kinda under the radar (at least it is now), which means there isn’t a 1+ hour wait for a table at brunch. We were seated immediately and served quickly.

I’ve also had their Banh Mi burger, which is extremely fresh and juicy. And at only around eight bucks this a deal. The roasted maple sweet potatoes are the perfect side to compliment just about any meal. The Heirloom tomato and peach salad is another not to miss item. It is so good you should get the large ($10) and share. On the other hand, the roasted beet salad was pretty forgettable.

Most recently I ate there for dinner (sorry, no pics) and started off with a shrimp curry dish. I loved the curry sauce, which was spiced just right with a minimal amount of heat. We had to order additional pita pieces to sop up all that fantastic gravy. For my main dish I couldn’t resist the chipotle rubbed skirt steak, tender and flavorful.

The prices are extremely low for the quality of the food. Why can’t other organic restaurants keep their prices low and flavors high like Urban Pl8? The most expensive menu item (scallops) are still only $17. Food is organic – some paleo friendly and gluten free. What it is not is snooty or overpriced. Staff is always friendly and super helpful. If you haven’t yet been to Urban Pl8, you’re missing out. Get there pronto.

What a great way to jump start spring, Rathbun’s will be a must do when I’m in the neighborhood, although Wisteria is very special.

Would you agree that it is the company, people in your party, that makes a dining experience excellent or is it more the food/service and ambience provided by the restaurant?

I think BOTH the people and the food/service make for an excellent dining experience. If you have lousy company, the best food or service won’t make the experience great. And terrific company can make awful food/service seem not so bad.

I hope to enjoy some fantastic food, service AND company at Rathbun’s one day soon :)
