Shula’s 347 Grill, Buckhead, Atlanta, GA Restaurant Review

Shula’s 347 Grill, located inside the Buckhead Marriott, and owned by former Football coach, Don Shula, aims to be a hybrid between sports bar and high end steakhouse. Trivia: the 347 in Shula’s 347 Grill isn’t some random number. It is the number of wins Don Shula had in his career as a coach. Disclosure: Shula’s Grill was kind enough to extend an complimentary meal to me and I happily obliged.

When I visited, the crowd was pretty diverse: couples on dates, a couple business meetings and a large table of a group of business travelers. It is very much like a steakhouse in that portions for everything were very large. So, while appetizers are tempting (bacon-wrapped shrimp, etc) try to limit yourself to only one if only two of you are dining there. Having said that, the crab cake is not to be missed. Full of lump crab with little filler, it is a delicious way to start off your meal without leaving you stuffed. If you aren’t a seafood fan, try the fried ravioli.

While the Seared Ahi Tuna, caught my eye, and I’m sure it is indeed delicious, I couldn’t resist ordering a steak. I was even more intrigued when we were told about the special of the evening, a seven ounce Ribeye on top of mushrooms with a balsamic reduction. Mr. ARB chose a New York Strip for his entree. Both were prepared perfectly. I loved that I was able to get a Ribeye in a small portion, not feeling like a complete glutton.

The New York Strip was tender and juicy and even remained quite juicy after being reheated the next day for lunch. Unfortunately, there weren’t any leftovers of the Ribeye, as I mopped it up that evening. While I enjoyed that it was served with mushrooms, I’d have preferred it sans the balsamic sauce. It wasn’t bad mind you, it is just that when a steak is that high-end, it doesn’t need any help. I let the shrooms soak up the sauce and enjoyed my steak au naturale.

We didn’t even make a dent in our colossal baked potatoes and they held up well with lunch the next day. The other sides of green beans and asparagus were delightful. I wouldn’t normally gush over sides, but these really did stand out. The asparagus were huge and full of flavor and the green beans were slightly crisp with just a hint of flavoring.

Shulas’ 347 Grill has a patio that is great for when the weather is nice. Sit outside and watch Buckhead bustle. Even though Shula’s 347 Grill is located inside of a Marriott, that doesn’t mean it is only for travelers. If you are in the mood for a tasty steak in a casual atmosphere, go check out Shula’s.
