Heart of Haiti Handmade Goods

Supporting small, local businesses is one of my priorities. I also want to help support those in need as much as I can. Today, I’m shifting the focus from food, to the community of Haiti. I wanted to share with you a special initiative to help Haitians called the Heart of Haiti.

It has almost been a year since the earthquake shook the already fragile community of Haiti. Instead of providing one-time funding through charity, Heart of Haiti is creating opportunities for Haitian artisans to earn income with dignity by creating jobs and sustainable income for the people of Haiti. In other words, Heart of Haiti is based on “Trade, Not Aid.”

The Heart of Haiti line includes beautiful quilts, metalwork, ceramics, jewelry, paintings and other pieces created by the Haitian artisans. This initiative offers the first sustainable income for these artists since the earthquake, enabling them to repair homes, pay school fees, and feed and clothe their families.

Below are some additional facts and links that will provide more information.
