La Tavola Trattoria Hosts 8th Annual TomatoFeast

Fifth Group Restaurant Feeds the Need for Locally Grown Heirloom Tomatoes

Fifth Group Restaurants’ La Tavola, an Italian dining spot in Virginia-Highland kicks off its eighth annual “Tomatofeast” celebration on Wednesday, July 28. This 11-day fete lasts through Saturday, August 7, and features seasonally-inspired Italian dishes created by Executive Chef Craig Richards using locally grown heirloom tomatoes.

Tomatofeast features a menu that is available à la carte or for the three-course prix fixe cost of $30 per person (plus tax and gratuity). Prices on the Tomatofeast menu range from $6.50 to $22. Chilled Brandywine tomato soup with pickled cucumbers chili oil, Pancetta wrapped chicken thighs braised in tomatoes? Yuuum!

APPETIZERS
Tomato and melon salad with buffalo mozzarella and pesto 7.50
Octopus salad with heirloom cherry tomatoes, colatura oil, pickled red onion,
arugula and tomato vinaigrette 8.50
Chilled Brandywine tomato soup with pickled cucumbers and chili oil 6.50
Poached Georgia shrimp with avocado, tomatoes, Calabrian chilies and opal basil 8.50

Burrata mozzarella ravioli with tomato salsa crudo and Sicilian oregano 17
Garganelli with housemade fennel sausage, tomato and fresh ricotta 16
Fusilli Puttanesca spicy heirloom tomato sauce, gaeta olives, capers, anchovies, basil 16
Pancetta-wrapped chicken thighs braised in tomatoes with cannellini beans 17
Grilled swordfish and red onion spiedini with sweet and sour roasted tomatoes

Grilled flat iron steak with tomato, cucumber and bread salad with spicy salsa rosso 20

    New dinner menu is void of sandwiches!
    Terrible, and even more overpriced.
    Most items offered are weird.
    Burger only survivor, and was flaccid.
    Mexican sugar can coke is dangerous unless you want sugar overdose.
    Coke Zero was not available
    Mac and Cheese for dinner?
    Can make that at home for nothing.
