Red Sky Tapas Bar, Marietta, Atlanta, GA Restaurant Review

One thing Atlanta has been missing for a while is a great dueling piano bar. I remember visiting Jelly Rolls a couple times in Buckhead and only had an appreciation for how much fun it was until it was closing down. After visiting some great dueling piano bars in various cities, I was so happy to hear that Red Sky has dueling pianos on weekends. But it is not only a dueling piano bar. It is also a Martini bar as well as a Tapas bar.

Their martini selection is really great with over 20 martinis for around $6. I stuck with the Nutty Martini and was pleased. The couple others in our group that had martinis enjoyed them as well. Not a martini drinker? Don’t worry, they also have sangria by the glass as well a huge selection of wines by the glass with some as low as $5 per glass.

Dueling pianos are on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 to midnight. I assembled a group of friends to go on a recent Saturday night. With reservations for 4, we arrived just after 8 pm. The table was in a great location for viewing the entertainment. Actually, its a rather small space, so any table at Red Sky provides for good viewing of the entertainment.

Reservations are a must for the weekend as Red Sky gets really crowded. And, if you don’t have a table, there really isn’t a place for you to stand.

So, the four of us decided we would order an assortment of tapas and share them all. Hands down, my favorite was the Ahi tuna. If they made candy out of tuna, this would be it. I sliced it in half and just let it melt in my mouth.

The plantains and crabcakes were excellent as well. I am always skeptical of ordering crab cakes off of a tapas menu or when they seem to cheap to be good. But they are well worth the 12 bucks and not at all full of breading as I had suspected they would be. The lobster rolls were ok, but I can’t remember tasting much lobster in them. The guacamole and chips were decent and good for sharing.

I didn’t care for the pizzas, calamari, or friend green tomatoes. The pizzas remind me of what you’d get at Chucky Cheese (4 tiny pieces that tasted like cheesy bread), the calamari didn’t have much flavor to it and the fried green tomatoes (even with the aioli dipping sauce) were pretty bland.

Staff is really friendly and you feel as though they all want to make sure you have a pleasant experience. Every interaction I had from the hostess, my server, and the owner / manager was positive. This particular restaurant space has gone through many owners and name changes. I really like Red Sky and have my fingers crossed that they make it.

There are drink specials every night except Friday and Saturday.
Monday – $4 Mojitos
Tuesday and Thursday – Martinis are $3-5
Wednesday and Sunday – Half off bottles of wine

Food prices are extremely reasonable. With all we ate and drank the per person price was only $30. Although the performers are just okay, (they don’t know a lot of songs) it is definitely entertaining. Free parking, Free entrance and Free entertainment? Try to get that deal ITP.
