Nuevo Laredo Atlanta, GA Restaurant Review

On a recent visit to Nuevo Laredo, I was amazed at how packed it was on a Tuesday night. There were only 2 of us in the party but I figured we would still have a wait. I was pleasantly surprised as the hostess at Nuevo Laredo seated us right away.

I immediately dove in to the chips and salsa as the salsa at Nuevo Laredo is outstanding. For my drink, I went for their house margarita at Nuevo Laredo as I know it is pretty tasty and strong. That’s really all I needed as it packs a pretty good punch. I guess it should for the $5.75 price tag.

I’d been here before and had the shrimp enchiladas which I thought were decent. My instinct was to try something other than the enchiladas like the the tacos or stuffed poblano pepper as that is always a favorite of mine. But, as I’ve had a craving for mole sauce (a sauce with over 20 different ingredients like cumin, cinnamon and even chocolate!), I went for the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce. And it was every bit as good as I expected it to be.

My dining companion, my brother, ordered the fish tacos. I’ve never been a fan of fish tacos, but he said the fish tacos were extremely tasty. Glad to see that they offer it with Salmon instead of Tilapia.

The service is always extremely quick and efficient just like the majority of Mexican restaurants around the Atlanta area.

I like Nuevo Laredo a good bit, but I just don’t see what all the fuss is about. Food is good but certainly not wait-half-an-hour-for-a-table good. The bottom line is that I think the food and service is great here and if you are in the area, it is certainly worth a visit. I just think it is a little pricey for what it is. Two entrees, a magarita and a beer were $37 before tip.

They have a good thing going and are pretty smart about it. They are consistently packed but choose not to expand probably because they know they may lose some of the appeal if they have other locations. A mistake some restaurants and bars do (ie The Grape, Twisted Taco).

Pros: Great Margaritas, salsa
Cons: Not enough parking
